What Is Batch Picking?
Understand how Batch Picking fits into the supply chain
Batch picking is an order picking method within a warehouse where similar orders are grouped into batches for picking. Multiple orders are picked at the same time, then sorted for shipment. This type of picking, when done correctly, optimizes efficiency and gives pickers a more defined route through the warehouse when picking inventory to ensure there is no backtracking, resulting in less time spent walking. For example, if an employee is picking five orders at once and all five orders contain the same product, when utilizing batch picking that picker only needs to visit the picking location one time instead of five.
