Penske Named Green 50 Supply Chain Partner by Inbound Logistics
READING, Pa., July 12, 2010 – Penske Logistics has been named a Green 50 Supply Chain Partner by Inbound Logistics magazine. Inbound Logistics editors named Penske to the list for the approaches it takes to improve MPG performance and reduce emissions of its truck fleet. The company was also recognized for the strategies it applies in helping its own customers analyze and reduce their carbon footprints, and for its promotion and participation in EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership. Penske also assists customers with optimized routes for fuel efficiency, efficient loading of trailers and advising on green lighting and recycling programs.
"We're pleased to be recognized for our efforts to help improve our environment," said Penske Logistics President Vincent Hartnett. "We are committed to helping customers improve the efficiency of their supply chains, reduce waste, and lower emissions and continually improve our truck fleet's environmental performance."
Penske Logistics is an active participant in the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership and has earned the program's highest rating of 1.25 as both a Carrier Partner for the company's own logistics truck fleet and as a Logistics and Shipper Partner. The Penske organization participates in and promotes the SmartWay program through its Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Truck Rental operations.
"When selecting the 50 Green Supply Chain Partners, Inbound Logistics editors took into account each company's participation in public-private partnerships; corporate sustainability initiatives; and collaborative customer-driven projects," says Felecia Stratton, editor, Inbound Logistics. "Companies like Penske Logistics have made sustainability a part of their business strategy."
